Youth Grants open to community

As part of its Community Grants program, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will introduce a Youth Grant program for the first time.

Opening on 16 December 2020, TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Councillor James O’Shea said grants of up to $1000 were available.

“The Youth Grant program is new for Council and aims to increase young people’s engagement with their communities, targeting those in the 12-25 age bracket,” he said.

“Council recognises the importance of supporting our youth which is why we’ve introduced this new source of funding.

“We already have a number of community grant programs but this one is specifically targeting youth-led and youth-driven projects.

“By opening this program we’re hoping to be empower the young people of this Region.

“This program will provide funding and/or in-kind assistance to support youth/community organisations in their efforts to provide services, activities and events that are of benefit to the young people of our Region.”

The Youth Grant program runs from 16 December 2020 until 13 January 2021.

Projects funded under the Youth Grants program must demonstrate how they have involved young people at every stage of the project, from issues identification, to design, delivery and review.

Organisations or groups applying for funding must have spoken with young people and involved them in the conceptual design of the project before submitting an application.

Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to contact Council as officers can give advice and assistance in the grant application process.
