The Central Goldfields Shire Youth Hub will be officially opened on Tuesday 4 February at 4pm at the Maryborough Town Hall.

A range of programs and services will be provided by Council, Go Goldfields Youth Alliance, Youth Support and Advocacy Service, Anglicare, Maryborough District Health Service, Victoria Police, Cobaw Health and more.

Information about health, alcohol and other drugs, homelessness, mental health will also be available.

Services include referrals, intake, counselling, computers, free Wi-Fi and a quiet study/reading space.

At the official opening, the Keep in Touch (KiT) van will be on site to promote mental health and wellbeing in young people.

The Youth Hub, which is aimed at 12 to 18 year olds, will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 5pm until July, 2020.

The Youth Hub will trial an integrated service model that will be accessed by young people across the Central Goldfields Shire.

The trial will inform a business case for a permanent youth facility, co-designed with local young people, that combines an integrated service model with a recreational youth space for the Shire. The need for a Youth Hub was identified after considerable consultations with young people, youth service delivery experts, and community members.

Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the Youth Hub will be a valuable meeting place for local young people.

“The Youth Hub will not only be a great place for our young people to socialise but they’ll also have access to services and essential information on health, wellbeing and mental health.

“I urge our local young people to take full advantage of this wonderful new facility.”
