Youth leader scholarship up for grabs

Northern Grampians Shire’s young people have the opportunity to secure a Community Leader Scholarship through Youthrive Victoria.

Introduced in 2018, the Community Leader Scholarship is awarded to a young person from the Wimmera region. Community groups and individuals are invited to nominate an extraordinary young local person to participate in the Young Rural Leaders Program. The course will be held in January 2020 at Narmbool near Ballarat, with a group of 25 emerging rural leaders coming together to develop leadership skills and personal abilities, forge new networks, receive career mentoring, and remain connected through the Alumni program.

Youthrive Victoria’s scholarship programs are designed to improve equity of access to post-school education for rural young people and ensure the availability of qualified young people to deliver services, drive economic growth and lead their rural communities.

Northern Grampians Shire Council Mayor, Councillor Kevin Erwin, encouraged any interested young residents to apply.

“It is wonderful that our young leaders have the opportunity to learn the various skills needed to be an effective leader,” he said.

“Youthrive, with the generous support of the Findex Community Fund, have created this scholarship that aims to give rural youth the same opportunities granted to those living in metropolitan regions.””It is certainly appreciated and will provide one of our young Wimmera community members with the chance to gain invaluable skills.”

The Scholarship includes a place in the Young Rural Leaders Program (including accommodation and meals) and $500 to help cover any lost wages or travel costs to attend the program.
