Youth volunteers get opportunity to host All-Ages Tour

Sonika volunteers will host The Push, All-Ages Tour this weekend.

Volunteers from the City of Ballarat’s Youth Services team make up Sonika, a FReeZA committee and State Government-funded initiative that gives young people the opportunity to lead the planning and staging of live music, recreational and cultural events within their own communities.

This program provides the participants with hands on experience and training in the Australian music industry through extensive event management, mentoring and networking opportunities.

The Push, All-Ages Tour event at the Ballarat Mechanics Institute will take place on Sunday 13 February 2022, headlined by Mallrat, Ninajirachi and Sami, the local Triple J Unearthed Competition winner. Local band, Esoteric will also be performing.

Tickets must be purchased online via Moshtix prior to the event. Doors open at 12.30pm and the event concludes at 5pm. All Ages is a drug, smoke and alcohol free event. No pass outs are provided.

City of Ballarat Deputy Mayor, Cr Amy Johnson said the opportunity for the City of Ballarat’s Sonika team to organise the event is incredible.

“The FReeZA Sonika volunteer program is a wonderful initiative that provides access to first-hand and industry-based training in the live music and events management sector,” she said.

“FReeZA provides pathway opportunities to our youth volunteers and additionally pathways and performance opportunities to the next generation of young musicians and emerging artists.

“With the industry impacted so much over recent years its terrific to see young people leading the return of safely staging music events in our community.

“This is an incredible opportunity to recognise the commitment, contributions and value our youth volunteers provide to the community by staging a live music event in partnership with nationally recognisable talent.”

The next round of applications to join the Sonika volunteer program are currently open and close on 14 February 2022.

The participants are aged between 12 and 25 years old, and living, working or studying in the City of Ballarat.

It is a program that supports young people to realise their full potential by providing access to programs that focus on improving skills, career pathways and community engagement.
