The NSW Government will provide $100,000 under its COVID-19 stimulus program for upgrade work to the Sheba Dams site near Hanging Rock.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said improvements will enhance the safety and tourism appeal of one of the region’s most beautiful Crown reserves.
“The twin Sheba Dams near Hanging Rock are a slice of our region’s history that were originally hand built in 1888 for miners to store water for sluicing gold,” Mr Anderson said.
“Today the reserve is a fantastic spot in a beautiful bush setting that is a popular recreational destination for camping, picnicking and fishing for trout.
“This $100,000 funding under the COVID-19 stimulus program will allow for maintenance work to be undertaken on the dams’ earth embankment walls and other improvements.
“The proposed work will remove shrubs that have grown on the dam walls, backfill holes in the downstream face of both dams, repair the upstream face of both dams, and clear vegetation from the spillway channels.
“A vehicle gate will also be installed at the approach to the lower dam wall to allow for better maintenance access to the area,” Mr Anderson said.
The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment – Crown Lands will manage the project.
Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said the $100,000 COVID-19 stimulus funding is part of a $39.1 million package of Spring funding that was being applied to regional infrastructure projects.
“The COVID-19 stimulus program is working to enhance important community infrastructure across the State while supporting jobs, tourism and local economies in regional areas,” Mrs Pavey said.
