  • Premier Mark McGowan was in Coolgardie today announcing a $15,000 Lotterywest grant to support the 2019 Coolgardie Day celebrations.

    Visitors and the local community are set to enjoy performances and activities celebrating Coolgardie’s history and culture.

    The event will showcase a range of activities, including free entertainment, food and market stalls along with a street parade.

    For more than 25 years, the annual event has celebrated Coolgardie’s history which includes the discovery of gold in 1892 that prompted many to descend on the town.

    Coolgardie Day will run from 8am to 5pm on Sunday week (September 15).

    The Premier and the McGowan Government Cabinet are in the Goldfields today and tomorrow for a Community Cabinet meeting.

    As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

    “I am pleased to present this $15,000 Lotterywest grant, which will go towards equipment and accessibility for the 2019 Coolgardie Day celebrations.

    “Free events such as these help instil a sense of belonging in the community and ensure WA’s heritage and cultures are acknowledged and embraced.

    “Coolgardie holds a rich part of Western Australia’s history and it’s wonderful to see the town’s story contribute towards the State’s local tourism industry.”

    As stated by Mining and Pastoral Region MLC Kyle McGinn:

    “Coolgardie Day is an absolutely fantastic community event which brings together thousands of people from all across the Goldfields to the town of Coolgardie.

    “I am pleased to see the hard work done by the Coolgardie Day organisers has been recognised and the State will be supporting this incredible event.

    “I would encourage people from across the Goldfields and North West Central region to travel to Coolgardie on September 15 and make a day of it, experiencing all that Coolgardie has to offer.”
