A 17-year-old male has been charged after being caught speeding, drink driving and driving without a licence in Carrick.
Deloraine Police detected a car travelling at 127km/h in a 60km/hr zone on Meander Valley Road, Carrick about 10pm on Monday 16 March.
The car was being driven by a 17-year-old from South Launceston who has never held a drivers licence. He submitted to a breath analysis and returned a reading of 0.144, nearly three times the limit for a fully licenced driver.
He was charged with the following;
- Exceed applicable speed limit (67km/h over);
- Drive a motor vehicle while exceeding prescribed alcohol limit;
- Driver whilst not the holder of a driver licence;
- Driver not holding Australian driver licence with alcohol in body.
He was disqualified from driving for a period of 12 months and bailed to appear in the Youth Justice Court.
“Police are very disappointed in the actions of this young person,” said Tasmania Police Inspector Scott Flude.
“He placed not only himself and his two passengers at an unacceptable risk but also other innocent motorists.”
“The offending is aggravated by the fact he has never held a licence.”
“This is a timely reminder that Tasmania Police is still conducting patrols targeting traffic offences, and drug and breath tests will continue to be conducted to help keep our roads safe.”
