195 drink driving incidents reported

Northern Territory Police would like to reiterate the importance of remaining below the legal alcohol limit when driving.

195 drink driving incidents were reported in the Northern Territory between 17 December 2018 and 16 January 2019.

“That is 195 too many,” Assistant Commissioner Narelle Beer said.

“That works out to more than six people seen drink driving every day. That’s six people who are at a higher risk of getting involved in an on road collision and causing harm.

“When you drink and drive, you place your life and the lives of others at risk.

“The only way to mitigate the risks associated with drink driving is to make sure that if you’re drinking, you don’t get behind the wheel. If you think you may be over the limit, ensure you make alternative transport arrangements.

Motorists caught drink driving can face a range of penalties including licence suspension and imprisonment. More information can be found at: https://nt.gov.au/driving/driving-offences-and-penalties/drink-driving-penalties and in the NT Traffic Act.
