20 arts projects funded for regional festivals across Australia

The Morrison Government has announced more than $550,000 in funding for 20 regional arts projects through the latest round of the Festivals Australia program.

Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the Festivals Australia program recognises the integral role of arts activities at regional festivals and provides an opportunity for local artists to collaborate across the arts sector.

“Festivals reflect the shared culture and experience of a community, and art is an important component of that. The supported arts projects will be drawcards for tourists and help celebrate communities and their stories,” said Minister Fletcher.

Festivals Australia is designed to fund arts projects in regional and remote communities across art forms including theatre, music, literature, dance and visual arts and crafts.

At the Desert Song Festival in the Northern Territory an intercultural musical collaboration will bring together the Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir with other artists to create ‘From the Desert to the Arafura Sea’.

At Upstream in Albury New South Wales, local contemporary artists will collaborate with projection company illuminart to create three site specific projection animations exploring a sense of place and cross art form collaboration.

At Fringe Mount Gambier in South Australia an interactive community event involving three regional artists across three art forms will engage audiences in large scale arts experiences.

Festivals Australia provides approximately $1.2 million each financial year through two competitive funding rounds to support arts projects at festivals in regional Australia.
