2019 South Australian Landcare Awards celebrate outstanding Landcare champions

Friday 1 November 2019 – Winning Landcare projects were announced this week at the South Australian Landcare Awards at the Tatiara Civic Centre, Bordertown, where Landcare champions from across South Australia came together to celebrate impressive achievements in the Landcare community.
Hosted by Leigh Radford, President Rural Media SA, the awards celebrate incredible efforts to protect South Australian land, water and biodiversity.
Last night’s ceremony saw award winners from diverse categories, including farming, Coastcare and Indigenous land management, announced by representatives of award sponsors and South Australian Landcare community champions/stalwarts.
Gerry Butler, Chairperson of the 2019 State Community Landcare Conference, and Sheree Bowman, Chairperson Landcare Association of SA, paid tribute to award finalists and winners.
“Last night’s South Australian Landcare Awards Gala Event was a great celebration of landcare in South Australia. The awards recognised individuals, groups and partnerships across the state as well as, and most importantly, First nations custodians caring for country,” Mr Butler said.
“On behalf of the South Australian landcare community I congratulate all the finalists and winners in the award categories. We are seeing real environmental outcomes from the dedication and commitment of community landcarers and it is important that we continue to support and recognise their tremendous efforts,” Ms Bowman said.
Landcare Australia CEO, Dr Shane Norrish, commended recipients of the South Australian Landcare Awards on their outstanding accomplishments.
“It’s an honour to be able to recognise the great work being carried out by our Landcare champions in South Australia,” Dr Norrish said.
“The Landcare Awards program provides landcarers the ideal opportunity to get together and celebrate the individual and collective achievements of landcare in the community.
He added: “Landcarers across Australia deserve to be acknowledged and we’re looking forward to seeing South Australia winners represent their community at the National Landcare Awards next year”.
Winners of the National Award categories will go on to represent South Australia at the 2020 National Landcare Awards in Sydney.
