2022/23 Round Two Community Strengthening Grants Awarded

Leeton Shire Council

Council approved nine applications for funding totalling $14,304.00 under Round 2 of the 2022/23 Council Community Strengthening Grants Scheme as recommended by the Community Grant Funding Working Group.

The recipients approved for funding were:

• Leeton Family and Local History Society Inc – $1,996 for the purchase of perspex boxes for donated models of early buildings of Leeton and district (to keep them safe from dust and damage);

• Leeton Eisteddfod Society – $2,000 to contribute to cost of venue hire for the 2023 Eisteddfod;

• Leeton Senior Citizen’s Committee – $349 for the purchase of a portable speaker & microphone to be used at morning tea functions;

• Physical Activity Leaders Network (auspiced by NSW Health MLHD) – $2,000 for the purchase of equipment to run low-cost gentle exercise classes for older people in Leeton Shire;

• Creative Connection Riverina Association (auspiced by Western Riverina Arts) – $2,000 to fund costs associated with ‘Bloodshed at the Banquet’ performance at the Art Deco Festival 2023;

• Boys to the Bush – Leeton – $1,909 for the purchase of a lawn mower and brush cutter to assist partnership with Leeton Shire Council and fulfill a long-term plan to offer a service to older people and those with disabilities in Leeton;

• Leeton Army Cadets – $1,700 for the purchase of a portable defibrillator to be available when they are away on exercises (often it is in remote

areas not close to hospitals or ambulances);

• Leeton District Dressage Club – $1,000 towards cost associated with transport of donated sand for arena; and

• MIA Branch of the MS Society – $1,350 for purchase of fliers & posters for events, venue hire at LSClub for four meetings, admin and tech support for events, hydrotherapy equipment (life jackets, incontinence products).

“With last week being ‘National Volunteer Week’, it is timely that Council is once again supporting some of our local not-for-profit groups with their important initiatives. Lending a hand through the Council Community Strengthening Grants scheme is one way in which Council recognises and celebrates local volunteers who put so much effort into getting valuable projects off the ground and making Leeton such a great place to live,” said Councillor and Community Grant Funding Working Group member Sandra Nardi.
