Bass Coast Shire Council is proud to announce the successful recipients of $137,000 in funding from the 2022 Community Grants Program which includes Phillip Island Boardrider’s Club, Wonthaggi Miners’ Friendly Society, South Gippsland Conservation Society and many more.
The Program provides funding to support not-for-profit organisations based in Bass Coast to deliver projects that benefit our community. The objectives of the grant program align with the strategies in the Council Plan 2017-2021 and the Climate Change Action Plan 2020-2030.
Successful applicants for Community Grants 2022 Round Two include:
- Phillip Island Scouts – $4,900 for a Paddle Project Trailer
- South Gippsland Conservation Society – $10,000 to extend their existing shed on Thompson Reserve, after collaborating with the community and fellow users.
- Wonthaggi Miners’ Friendly Society’s Dispensary – $5000 to create a mural on their building to commemorate their centenary, set to be an incredible asset to Wonthaggi
- Phillip Island Boardriders’ Club – $10,000 for Flooring Renewal works
- Phillip Island Land Alliance – $4,746 to engage Bunurong Land Council in Cultural Awareness Workshops to assist in identifying cultural items or landmarks when planting.

By giving local non-profits the finances to turn the spark of their idea into a fully-fledged reality, we can enable our community to create the change they want to see in the world.

Council’s financial gifts to these groups today, can build improved facilities and programs to be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Applicants seeking Council Community Grants must identify how their project aligns with the Council Plan 2021-2025. Key objectives from the Plan include: Protecting our Natural Environment; Healthy Community; Our Places; Growing our Economy; Sustainable Development; and Leading for our Community. For groups seeking funding for climate action, applicants must ensure their work will contribute to the climate emergency response and the Climate Change Action Plan 2020-2030.
Council has allocated $254,000 to the 2022/23 Community Grants funding stream, with applications now open for Community Grants 2023 Round 1, closing on 3 March 2023. Applicants are encouraged to read the Community Grant Guidelines and contact Council’s Community Grants Officer before starting an application.
Also opening this week is the Quick Response Grants, assessed monthly, providing up to $1,000.
