2024 Law Council of Australia Executive

At the December Directors’ Meeting of the Law Council of Australia, held on Saturday in Canberra, the following Directors were elected as Members of the Law Council Executive for 2024:

  • Greg McIntyre SC, President
  • Juliana Warner, President-Elect
  • Tania Wolff, Treasurer
  • Elizabeth Carroll, Executive Member
  • Elizabeth Shearer, Executive Member
  • Lachlan Molesworth, Executive Member

Outgoing President, Mr Luke Murphy said it has been an honour to serve as President during the 90th anniversary year of the Law Council of Australia.

“Ninety years on, the role of the Law Council in agitating for change that is in the interests of our profession and the Australian community remains as important as ever. I welcome the election of the new Executive who will lead this vital work in the coming year.”

“Led by incoming President, Greg McIntyre, the 2024 Executive will continue to defend the rule of law and promote access to justice for all,” Mr Murphy said. “During the past 12 months, the Law Council has engaged with the Commonwealth on major issues, policy and proposed legislation.”

“These have included reforms to the family law system and privacy laws, advocating for funding for our much needed and appreciated legal assistance services, national security, and elder abuse. “I am exceptionally proud of the work the Law Council did, with the support of its Sections, Committees and Constituent Bodies, regarding the Voice to Parliament. We developed a Guide and series of information sheets to provide accurate and informed material for both the legal profession and the Australian public to help them understand the proposed amendment and its implications. The Law Council also provided input to the Parliament regarding the grounds constituting the case for a constitutionally enshrined Voice.”

“I would like to thank the Law Council Executive, Council and Secretariat and the members of the profession who have been central to us being able to examine and respond to the significant volume and variety of issues we have tackled this year.”

Incoming President, Mr Greg McIntyre thanked Mr Murphy for his service and said he looks forward to building on the strong outcomes and foundations which are the legacy of his term.
