Illawarra’s popular Sublime Point walking track will be temporarily closed for essential safety and environmental protection works from Monday 31 May 2021, as part of a $320,000 upgrade by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS).
NPWS Area Manager Graham Bush said that use of the track has increased significantly in the past few years and these important works are necessary to maintain the condition of the track and also accommodate an anticipated increase in visitation.
“These works will make sure that the track remains in good condition by fixing erosion and surface drainage issues,” said Mr Bush.
“The work, being done by local NPWS staff and contractors over the next few months, will also improve safety for walkers and provide areas along the track to rest and pass,” he said.
“Maintenance of the steep one-kilometre track will be done in stages, with this first phase closing the track from Monday 31 May to 16 July, weather permitting.”
“We appreciate park visitor’s patience during this time and look forward to re-opening a much-improved trail.”
“Walkers are encouraged to take this opportunity to discover other walks in the area such as the Mt Kembla Ring Track or the Mt Kiera Ring Track.”
This track upgrade is part of the biggest visitor infrastructure investment in the history of NSW national parks, with the NSW Government investing $257 million to roll out 170 projects across the national parks estate.
