  • $39.1 million invested in 2022-23 State Budget for Stage 2 facilities at Alkimos College
  • Expansion includes a student services block, performing arts centre, dance and visual arts studios, and specialist and STEM classrooms
  • New facilities to be ready for start of the 2024 school year
  • Delivering on a McGowan Labor Government election commitment
  • The McGowan Government has today announced the 2022-23 State Budget will include $39.1 million for the exciting second stage of construction works at Alkimos College.

This funding will enable the delivery of a student services area, performing arts centre, dance and visual arts studios, plus dedicated music, general and specialist classrooms, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) classrooms.

Once completed, the new additions will boost the school’s capacity to accommodate an extra 700 students.

Alkimos College opened in 2020 with a specialist design and technologies area, general classrooms, science and information technology laboratories, sports hall, canteen and library.

It is focused on providing local students with world-class learning facilities to help them succeed in their secondary education.

The new funding comes on top of the $1 million already provided by the McGowan Labor Government for planning of the Alkimos College’s Stage 2 facilities.

The facilities were designed and planned by Perth-based architectural firm T&Z Architects.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

“The McGowan Government is committed to ensuring Western Australian public schools offer students the best possible opportunities to learn.

“These new facilities will deliver exceptional standards of learning for current and future students.

“This is an exciting next step for the Alkimos College community as the school continues to grow each year.”

As stated by Butler MLA John Quigley:

“The Alkimos College Stage 2 project is a key McGowan Government election commitment, and part of our plan to build the north and deliver the best education for local students.

“The inclusion of funding for fantastic new facilities in the 2022-23 State Budget is a huge win for Alkimos College families – current and future – and will enable this growing school to continue delivering the highest standards of learning for students of all abilities.”
