  • Construction underway on state-of-the-art facility for Argyle-Irishtown Bush Fire Brigade
  • Emergency Services Minister visits South West to see station’s progress
  • Cook Labor Government committed to bolstering safe communities across regional WA

A new $1.6 million station for the Argyle-Irishtown Bush Fire Brigade is one step closer with the completion of key early construction works at the site along South Western Highway.

Minister for Emergency Services Reece Whitby MLA was in the region today to meet with volunteers and see the progress of their new headquarters, which delivers on a key election commitment to bolster community safety across regional WA.

The new station is strategically located on a main road to facilitate a rapid response to emergencies including bushfires, structure fires and hazardous materials incidents.

The design features three appliance bays, a kitchen, a training room and two dedicated water tanks with a combined capacity of 60,000 litres.

Initial plumbing and electrical works at the site are now complete while foundations and a concrete slab for the shed have also been laid.

The modern facility will replace Argyle-Irishtown Bush Fire Brigade’s current headquarters on Knights Road which is nearly 30 years old.

The new station is expected to be complete by mid-2027.

As stated by Emergency Services Minister Reece Whitby:

“Fire and emergency services volunteers step up at a moment’s notice and put their lives on the line to protect others when they need it most.

“The Argyle-Irishtown Bush Fire Brigade’s outstanding service dates back to 1994 and is deeply appreciated by the community.

“These volunteers are extremely deserving of a modern and fit-for-purpose headquarters, which is exactly what the Cook Labor Government is delivering.

“It is fantastic to see work progressing on this $1.6 million station, which will strengthen emergency response and ensure the Argyle-Irishtown brigade continues to thrive for decades to come.”

As stated by Member for Collie Preston Jodie Hanns:

“I have been proud to champion this project and advocate for our local volunteers, who do an extraordinary job protecting our community.

“They put themselves on the line to protect local families, homes and businesses, and they deserve facilities that support the important work they do.

“It’s fantastic to see construction underway and this important investment taking shape. It is a real win for the Argyle-Irishtown community and the dedicated volunteers who serve it.”
