- Ruah Community Services receives $2.9 million Lotterywest grant and $1.5 million capital funding towards construction of a new women and children’s centre
- Seven-storey centre will support women and children experiencing family and domestic violence
The State Government has awarded a combined $4.4 million to Ruah Community Services towards building a new centre for women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.
A $2.9 million Lotterywest grant and $1.5 million in capital funding has been allocated to The Ruah Centre for Women and Children, which is currently under construction.
The funding is in addition to a previous $4 million Lotterywest grant, taking total government investment in the project to $8.4 million and builds on the State Government’s record $200 million investment in new initiatives to respond to family and domestic violence.
Once complete, the Centre will comprise of seven storeys, including two levels for short-term and transitional accommodation.
Ruah Community Services is a not-for-profit community service organisation providing a range of emergency accommodation and support services in the Perth metropolitan area.
As stated by Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Sabine Winton:
“It takes enormous courage for women to escape violence and seek out a better life for themselves and their children.
“Spaces such as the Ruah Centre for Women and Children will go a long way towards helping victim-survivors access the support they need to build a safe and stable life.
“I’d like to thank Ruah Community Services for their dedication to this project and to the people they support.”
As stated by Perth MLA John Carey:
“Our Government continues to do everything we can to support the most vulnerable members of the community and boost crisis accommodation – including through grants to support vital service providers like Ruah.
“This funding will ensure Ruah Community Services can continue to support vulnerable women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.”
