The Northern Territory is home to some of the best fishing found around the globe.
To support innovation and growth in the recreational fishing sector which is worth $270 million in the NT, the Territory Labor Government is investing half a million dollars through a new round of the NT Recreational Fishing Grants Scheme (NTRFGS).
$500,000 is now available for recreational fishing initiatives and or organisations through the 2024 round under 2 categories.
$15,000 will be available to support smaller scale ‘not-for-profit’ recreational fishing initiatives.
While grants of up to $100,000 are now available for larger scale ‘not-for-profit’ projects to help create new recreational fishing opportunities.
Previous recipients have used the grant program to support new community fishing clinics, events and initiatives, educational programs, recreational fishing infrastructure, fishing waste recycling initiatives, fish habitat creation and restoration and more.
Recreational fishing is a significant drawcard for Tourists and a significant contributor to the Northern Territory, generating $270 million annually – directly generating $144 million and a further $126 million indirectly for the local economy.
Applications are open for a period of six weeks. This year’s grants program will close on the 29th of April.
These grants open at the world’s richest fishing competition – Million Dollar Fish – reaches never before seen heights with more than 80 barra worth a million dollars in waterways across the NT.
