$6 million boost for our Marine Parks

The Morrison Government is furthering its commitment to healthy and cleaner oceans today by announcing the opening of the second round of the Our Marine Parks Grants program.

This grant round will enable organisations and community groups to assist in managing Australia’s 2.8 million square kilometre network of Australian Marine Parks by putting forward innovative and inspiring projects to an individual maximum value of $500,000.

Australians want to be actively involved in caring for our environment and there are some incredible ideas out there that we want to encourage through this process.

We are already a world leader in marine protection and there are many groups and organisations who are passionate about our marine ecosystems.

This second round of Our Marine Parks Grants is open to a broad range of stakeholders and we are encouraging applications for areas relevant to marine park management including science, tourism, education, compliance, community engagement and Indigenous cultural awareness.

There are 58 Australian Marine Parks around our coastline that protect our offshore marine environment (3 to 200 nautical miles from shore) and are managed by Parks Australia to deliver benefit for all Australians. These parks include a diverse range of tropical, temperate and sub-Antarctic habitats and species.

Applications for round two of the Our Marine Parks Grants program open today and close 11pm, 28th February 2020.
