A career for future in agriculture

Are you interested in innovation and technology, gaming, engineering and science? If the answer is yes, then a career in agriculture could be for you.

At this year’s Western Victorian Careers Expo, staff from Agriculture Victoria will be on hand to highlight the diverse range of jobs available right here in Horsham.

Adopting a theme of ‘Jobs for the Future’ the Agriculture Victoria team are using the Expo as an opportunity to showcase how agriculture offers exciting careers in one of the most technologically advanced and innovation sectors.

On display the team will have some of their unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and students can even get a ‘virtual’ experience of flying one.

Also on display will be some of the thousands of seeds that are stored in the Australian Grains Genebank (AGG) at Horsham’s Grains Innovation Park. The AGG holds more than 300 million seeds from across the globe and is playing a critical role in the development of crop varieties that will ensure we can keep our growing global population fed.

At the Agriculture Victoria display you will also see lentil bread and biscuits that have been developed as a means of adding value to down-graded lentil grain. The added benefit is the nutritional value consumers of the future will get from consuming products made from pulse flour.

Agriculture Victoria has careers for people of all education levels. From field workers and researchers to lab technicians, drone pilots and PhD students. There are jobs for people with a variety of interests from all walks of life.

Want to know more? Then be sure to get to room 5 at 11 am at the Western Victorian Careers Expo. This year we have speaking:

  • An IT expert who is helping farmers adopt the latest technology
  • An early school-leaver who is developing biscuits and bread from lentils, and is about to complete a PhD
  • Someone who diagnoses crop health from the sky!

Come and talk to the Agriculture Victoria team at the Western Victorian Careers Expo at Longerenong Events Centre, from 9.30 am to 2 pm on Tuesday 25 June.
