A new chapter for the City of Casey as Council group is announced

The results of the 2024 City of Casey Council elections were announced by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) on Friday 8 November.

Ten new Councillors were declared by the VEC, with the results for Akoonah Ward and River Gum Ward to undergo a recount and results likely to declared in coming days.

The following declared Councillors have been elected to represent the Casey community for the next four years:

Akoonah Ward: Not yet declared

Casuarina Ward: Kim Ross

Correa Ward: Gary Rowe

Cranbourne Gardens Ward: Michelle Crowther

Dillwynia Ward: Anthony Walter

Grevillea Ward: Dave Perry

Kalora Ward: Melinda Ambros

Kowan Ward: Shane Taylor

Quarters Ward: Carolyn Eaves

River Gum Ward: Not yet declared

Tooradin Ward: Jennifer Dizon

Waratah Ward: Stefan Koomen

City of Casey Chief Executive Officer Glenn Patterson said the 2024 local government elections represented an exciting new chapter for Casey.

‘Congratulations to all of the successful candidates and I welcome the newly elected Councillors to their roles. The community has elected a gender diverse group, with 50 per cent women being successful, and a group that offers a healthy mix of experience and perspectives,’ he said.

‘The return of a democratically elected Council is an exciting time for the City of Casey. Casey staff and I are looking forward to working with the new Councillor team, continuing to deliver the required services and infrastructure to meet the growing needs of our city. Together, we will work towards fostering collaboration, addressing local challenges and driving positive change on behalf of the community.’

Over the coming months, all Councillors will undertake mandatory induction training, with mandatory Mayoral training also introduced as part of the Local Government (Governance And Integrity) Amendment Regulations 2024 to be completed by Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Acting Mayors.

Casey’s new Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected at a Special Council Meeting at 4.00 pm on Tuesday 19 November. Members of the community are welcome to attend the meeting, which will be held in the Bunjil Place Function Room, 2 Patrick Northeast Drive, Narre Warren.
