Central Goldfields Shire Council is fully prepared for the state-wide ban of e-waste going into landfill from Monday 1 July, 2019.
The Shire’s transfer stations – located in Carisbrook, Talbot, Dunolly and Bealiba – now have upgraded facilities to ensure e-waste doesn’t end up in landfill.
E-waste is any unwanted product that has a plug, cord or battery.
The state-wide ban means residents will no longer be able to dispose of e-waste in kerbside bins and can instead take their e-waste free of charge – with the exception of televisions – to the Shire’s transfer stations or at a source separation station at Council’s Customer Service Centre at 22 Nolan Street Maryborough, Maryborough Resource Centre and Talbot Post Office.
This initiative will help reduce e-waste ending up in landfill and minimise our impact on the environment.
The state-wide ban also ties in with Council’s upcoming 2019-2020 Waste Management Strategy which focuses on reducing waste to landfill.
Residents can provide feedback on the strategy via three surveys at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay or by obtaining hardcopies by contacting Council’s Customer Service Centre on 5461 0610.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey is encouraging community members to be more mindful of how they dispose of their waste.
“This state-wide e-waste to landfill ban is a great reminder to all of us to be more aware of how we dispose of our waste and to minimise our waste to landfill.
“We should look to avoid using single-use plastics and recycle as often as we can.”
