There’s big schedule of work planned for Council’s roads, water and drainage networks in 2024.

We are currently finishing off the reconstruction of the section of Carlyle Street opposite the Byron Bay Rec Grounds.

In Mullumbimby, work is underway on the renewal of the carpark at the rec ground, which includes resurfacing and a new footpath.

Other projects planned for Mullumbimby include:

  • New shared path in Heritage Park
  • New shared path on Fern Street
  • Improvements to the road surface on River Terrace.

At South Beach Road at Brunswick Heads, temporary work involving the placement of water barriers, along with the marking of some parking spaces, was done in early February to improve the flow of traffic.

This work precedes permanent improvements to South Beach Road which will be done in the second half of 2024.

An upgrade of a section of Lawson Street in Byron Bay is schedule to start in late March and this will include a new water main on at the intersection with Fletcher Street.

Major improvements will be done to Bayshore Drive in the Arts and Industry Estate, with this work to start in late March/April.

In the next several months Council will be going to tender for contractors to upgrade water mains on Brushbox Drive in Mullumbimby, Narooma Drive and Bulgoon Crescent at Ocean Shores and Bangalow Road in Byron Bay.

The remediation of sewer mains across the Shire is also planned, with this work expected to start in mid-2024.

There will of course be continual maintenance work carried out on the water and sewer networks, as well as pothole repairs and road grading.
