  • Under the Liberals’ 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, hunting will remain a traditional way of life in Tasmania.

A re-elected majority Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to support recreational hunting by maintaining current hunting seasons and continue to support present access for hunters to game species, including wild fallow deer, wallaby, duck, quail, mutton bird and pheasant.

Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Jo Palmer said an important part of the Liberal’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to develop stronger communities and enhance our regions.

“We recognise the economic and social contribution of recreational hunting and the passion of thousands of Tasmanians for this way of life,” Minister Palmer said.

“That is why a re-elected majority Rockliff Liberal Government will maintain current hunting seasons and access for hunters to game species.

“We will develop an online portal to make it easier for recreational hunters to manage access to public land.

“We will also provide a dedicated property-based wildlife management planning officer within the Agency to facilitate hunter access to private land to assist landowners to manage wildlife impacts.

“To strengthen the representation of recreational hunters on the Tasmanian Game Council we will also appoint a representative each from the Tasmanian Deer Advisory Committee and the Australian Deer Association to the Tasmanian Game Council.

“A re-elected majority Rockliff Liberal Government will also continue to implement the Wild Fallow Deer Management Plan 2022-2027 as per the agreed Implementation Strategy 2022-2027.

“Only a re-elected majority Rockliff Liberal Government has a 2030 Strong Plan to support the future of recreational hunting in Tasmania.”
