Academic faces fresh charges over fake harassment campaign in Sydney City PAC

A university academic is facing new charges as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged fake harassment campaign at a Sydney university.

Between July and November 2019, a woman reported to police that she had received threatening letters, sparking an extensive police investigation.

Following inquiries, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command arrested a 49-year-old woman at a university in Haymarket on Friday 15 November 2019.

The woman, who is a university academic, was charged and remains before the courts.

It is alleged that since this time, the university received two letters on Wednesday 27 November 2019. A third letter was received on Friday 29 November and a further six letters were received between Monday 9 December 2019 and Monday 6 January 2020.

Following further inquiries, investigators arrested the 49-year-old woman at a Woolooware home yesterday (Wednesday 8 January 2020).

She was taken to Sutherland Police Station and charged with give false information person/property in danger, and breach of bail.

The woman was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Thursday 9 January 2020).
