is the independent panel of experts responsible for advising the Australian Government on prioritising spending from the MRFF. It sets the strategy for the MRFF every 5 years, and the fund’s priorities every 2 years.
The Australian Medical Research and Innovation Strategy 2026-2031 sets a vision of transforming health through research excellence and lasting impact. It positions the MRFF to deliver world-leading research that improves health outcomes and health equity through prevention, intervention, and research translation.
The strategy drives investments that complement the investigator-led National Health and Medical Research Council, and the National Health and Medical Research Strategy. It also supports collaboration across the research and health sectors, and the meaningful involvement of consumers and communities.
The Australian Medical Research and Innovation Priorities 2026-2028 identify where health and medical research can make the biggest difference.
The priorities focus investment on areas of national need and opportunity. They also recognise the importance of addressing health inequities, strengthening prevention, and supporting research that is responsive to the needs of priority populations.
AMRAB developed the strategy and priorities following a national consultation with stakeholders. The board also held targeted discussions with expert advisory committees and key members of the health and medical research system. A summary of stakeholder feedback is in the Australian Medical Research and Innovation Strategy 2026-2031 and Priorities 2026-2028 consultation report.
AMRAB acknowledges and thanks everyone who contributed to the development of the strategy and priorities.
