MEMBER (AM) IN THE GENERAL DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA
Dr Andrew Edward CATTERMOLE RFD (Victoria)
For significant service to dentistry through periodontics education, and to professional organisations.
Having served as president (1978-81) and also as a federal councillor and committee member of the Australian Society of Periodontology, Dr Andrew Edward Cattermole has maintained extensive involvement with the Dental School, The University of Melbourne as a Senior Clinical Demonstrator, Periodontics (since 1975), a Post Graduate Clinical Demonstrator and Examiner in Periodontics Post Graduate Programme (since 1985) and as a Clinical Consultant, Periodontics, Melbourne Dental Clinic (since 2012). He has also served as an Examiner in Periodontics BDSc and DClinic Dent (1985-2012), an Honorary Senior Clinical Demonstrator in Periodontics (1973-2015), an Honorary Clinical Demonstrator, Department of Community Dentistry (1988-2000) and an Honorary Senior Clinical Demonstrator, Department of Conservative Dentistry (1973-1988), as well as a number of other roles. Dr Cattermole has also worked with the Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne, University of Adelaide, Dental Health Services Victoria, the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Royal Women’s Hospital, in addition to serving with the Australian Dental Association as a council member, as president of the Victorian Branch and on a number of key committees.
Conjoint Associate Professor Deborah Jane COCKRELL (NSW)
For significant service to dentistry, to professional organisations, and to education.
An overseas trained oral surgeon with a PhD in dental education, Conjoint Associate Professor Deborah Cockrell AM is an experienced national and international specialist dental practitioner with over 30 years of leadership experience, working in a wide range of settings including academia, outreach services, public and private practice. Conjoint A/Prof Cockrell has developed and delivered a range of education programs, served on the ADANSW Council from 2001-2016 and was the first female ADA NSW Branch President from 2013-2015. Australasia’s representative on the International Board of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Conjoint A/Prof Cockrell is currently employed as a Professional Officer/Authorised Person with the Dental Council of NSW and is both a Director and Chair of the Accreditation Committee at the Australian Dental Council. She maintains her research interest as Director (Oral Health) for the Centre for Education and Research on Ageing (CERA), at Concord Repatriation and General Hospital.
Dr John William CURTIN (Victoria)
For significant service to oral and maxillofacial surgery, to dentistry, and to professional associations.
Having served extensively with both the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS), Dr John William Curtin has also served on a number of committees for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. A member of the Australian Dental Association, Dr Curtin has served in a number of positions both in the Victorian Branch and Federally, as well as in roles with the Federal Department of Health and the Department of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology, University of Melbourne. A Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, International College of Dentists, Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of England and Academy of Dentistry International, Dr Curtin has worked in private and public practice and received a number of awards including the Distinguished Service Awards from IAOMS, ANZAOMS and IAOMS Foundation, 2015.
Professor Marc TENNANT (Western Australia)
For significant service to tertiary dental education, and to professional associations.
Winthrop Professor, The University of Western Australia and Former Associate Chair, now Deputy Chair, Academic Board UWA, Professor Marc Tennant is the Director and Founder, International Research Collaborative – Oral Health and Equity, as well as the Former Adjunct Professor at James Cook, Bond and La Trobe universities. Author of more than 250 peer-review publications is a College Board member Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, the Chief Examiner, Primary Fellowship Examinations RACDS and Lecturer and Examiner in Histology/Anatomy, RACDS for more than two decades. A member of the Working Group, National Oral Health Plan #1, COAG Health Council and Former President, Western Australian Branch, International Association for Dental Research. Prof. Tennant is a member of the State Consulting Board – Australian Council of Healthcare Standards, as well as a Certified Surveyor (and International), 2008-2021 – Australian Council of Healthcare Standards. Made a Fellow, Brocher Foundation, Switzerland, and Saint Catherine’s College, Western Australia in 2014 and 2015 respectively, Prof. Tennant is Fellow of Academy of Dentistry International and the International College of Dentists, in addition to being a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award, Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the Excellence in Service Award, Health Consumers’ Council of Western Australia.
