Premier Mark McGowan and Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery visited South Metropolitan TAFE’s Mandurah campus today to announce $5.5 million for hair and beauty training.
The project is fully funded by the McGowan Government, and will be included in the Mid-year Review in December.
Planning for South Metropolitan TAFE’s new $9.17 million hospitality and tourism training centre in Mandurah highlighted the need to address facilities for hair and beauty training at the campus.
Hair and beauty training will be incorporated into the existing hospitality and tourism training centre project. This brings the total State Government investment at the Mandurah campus to $14.67 million.
Co-locating the training areas will deliver significant community benefit as locals can enjoy an affordable meal at the training restaurant and then treat themselves to a low-cost massage or manicure while supporting student learning in a simulated environment.
Mandurah’s new state-of-the-art training facilities will meet demand for more skilled workers and greater youth engagement in the region by expanding training options and the number of half price courses available, as part of the State Government’s Lower fees, local skills initiative.
The Mandurah project was announced in July as part of the largest TAFE capital works program in WA history, a record $167.4 million investment to fund upgrades to essential infrastructure across the State’s TAFE colleges.
Planning and design at the Mandurah campus is well underway with construction anticipated to start in July 2021.
The project is expected to be completed for Semester 2, 2022.

“This further expands a record-breaking investment in TAFE and training by this Government that is setting up our State for the future and assisting job creation.

“This project will improve local training and support jobs for local workers.”

“This investment will ensure the Peel community has access to the very best learning environment.”

“The new facility will offer training opportunities for people in the region who want jobs in the local hair, beauty, hospitality and tourism industries.”
