The message could not be clearer to Tasmanians – stay at home, unless you must be at work or school.
Staying home, saves lives.
Last night the National Cabinet met to discuss the next stage in our plan to mitigate the spread of coronavirus. And while, there remains no evidence of community transmission in Tasmania, we have an opportunity to take advantage of our unique island situation and strong border measures, to smash the curve and keep Tasmanians safe and secure.
But this can only be achieved if every single Tasmanian, and every person in our state, complies with the rules.
From today, it will be mandatory that all non-essential travellers receive and sign a notice that they understand the rules regarding self-isolation and what their obligations are. There are also stringent rules applying to accommodation places in our state, and compliance is mandatory.
All non-essential passengers will be instructed to travel directly to their place of residence. If they do not have a place of residence in Tasmania, they will be instructed to return to their port of departure, or they will be directed to Government provided accommodation for the self-isolation period and charged a fee for that service.
Whilst in self-isolation individuals will be monitored and provided with support should they need it, however, they will be charged with an offence if they break the rules.
In regards to managing self-isolation; if placed into self-isolation, all household members are to self-isolate for the 14 day period. If a member of a couple or a family, then all persons in the household must self–isolate for the 14 day period and must not leave the property where self-isolation is taking place. If this cannot be managed effectively due to an essential occupation needing to continue or because of risk to vulnerable others in the household, then self-isolation is to occur in accommodation at another setting, at the State’s cost.
As agreed by the National Cabinet, additional prohibited activities and venues to apply from midnight (local time) 25 March 2020 include:
