“Brimbank Leisure Centres staff have worked hard over the weekend to address the issue of algae in the outdoor swimming pool at Sunshine Leisure Centre.
“Staff implemented a thorough clean which helped deal with the issue.
“Brimbank Council had received several reports of algae in the outdoor swimming pool at Sunshine Leisure Centre.
“The outdoor pool experiences higher algae loads in autumn and winter due to the leaves dropping from trees, plus the rain and wind blowing debris into the water.
“Wet and cold weather conditions in recent times had restricted the cleaning schedule of the outdoor pool. However the centre has now re-established its usual cleaning schedule, which will have a positive impact on the pool.
“Another strategy Council could take to reduce algae is to temporarily increase the chlorine and add more fresh water into the outdoor pool. This was not done as we didn’t want to drop the water temperatures in the pool during winter.
“Council is currently seeking quotes to replace the pool lining. This replacement will have a positive impact on maintenance and upkeep.
“Water quality in our public pools is important to Council, and pool water quality meets all health department regulations and requirements.
“We would like to thank the community for their feedback which gives us the opportunity to review our procedures and see if there are ways we can improve our pool maintenance program.”
