This year, 26Ten Week is shining a light on adult literacy by collecting and sharing stories to show the difference literacy and numeracy makes in people’s lives.
The theme this year is ‘Changing lives. One story at a time’, raising awareness for adult literacy and highlighting the valuable work happening across Tasmania.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said whether they’re learning something new or helping others, everyone’s story matters.
“Sharing literacy and numeracy stories helps build a stronger, more connected Tasmania – one story at a time,” Minister Palmer said.
“It is so important that as adults, we’re constantly learning new skills and sharing our experiences with others.
“That’s exactly what our Government’s Adult Literacy Strategy – 26Ten 2026-2035 aims to achieve.
“It recognises literacy as the foundation for learning, working, and participating in community life, and works to deliver the tools Tasmanians need to build confidence and capability with their reading and writing.”
Released today, the Tasmanian Adult Literacy Strategy – Implementation Plan 2026 – 2029 sets out how we will achieve the Strategy.
“This Plan provides a clear roadmap for how we will deliver the Strategy over the next four years,” Minister Palmer said.
“A new Tasmanian Adult Literacy Advisory Group, bringing together community voices, service providers and system partners, will drive the delivery of the Plan.”
