AECOM appoints new climate resilience lead for the Australian Capital Territory

AECOM

AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced the appointment of Dr. Kaya Wilson as a new climate resilience lead based in Canberra. In this role, Dr. Wilson will assist clients in identifying, understanding, and enhancing their climate resilience in a complex and changing world, focusing on national and Australian Capital Territory Government clients.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr.Wilson to our team to help our clients cope, recover, and prosper under changing climate conditions. Australians are already seeing the devastating effects of climate change events, and there is an immediate need to support our federal and state governments to transform and build resilient communities and infrastructure. AECOM is working across many major projects to help implement tools to better understand the risks and opportunities of a changing climate,” said Richard Barrett, AECOM’s chief executive, Australia and New Zealand. “Specialist climate-related roles will be integral as we manage the impact of climate change. Importantly, we are seeing significant action, such as a Territory-wide climate risk assessment for the Australian Capital Territory Government, and in New Zealand, the first national climate change risk assessment.”

Dr. Wilson’s earth science experience spans private industry, academia, and government sectors, including roles at Geoscience Australia and the Australian Climate Service, where he led a team providing and developing daily natural hazard risk intelligence briefs to National Emergency Management Australia. A specialist in natural hazard risk, he holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle focused on tsunami modelling.

Dr. Wilson is also a published author, diversity and inclusion consultant, and public speaker.
