Local CFA crews from Wandin and Seville undertook life-saving road crash rescue training this week alongside Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria.
About 60 crew members took part in the interagency training with two crash scenarios, a t-bone and vehicle on its side, and a vehicle into a tree, at the Wandin East Recreation Reserve.
Darryn Goss, Wandin CFA Captain, said the aim of the training was to improve how the agencies worked together.
“We only liaise and work with each other in the heat of the moment, under duress and in time-critical patient outcomes,” Darryn said.
“The training allowed us to sit back under a controlled scenario, appreciate and work together and talk about how we can better extricate a patient.
“We find out in a training scenario what each agency can offer and how we can work together in a smoother way that’s better for patients.”
Darryn said the Wandin Fire Brigade had recently seen an increase in road crash rescues, so training allowed them to be better prepared.
“We are getting new members all the time. Not everyone attends road crash rescues, and this gives them the chance to participate before faced with a live scenario,” he said.
