Aggravated Robbery charge – Victoria Park

Cannington Detectives have charged a 22-year-old man in relation to an incident that occurred in Victoria Park on Tuesday 4 January 2022, in which an 82-year-old woman was robbed.

About 5:00pm the woman was walking along the footpath on McMaster Street heading towards Albany Highway when a male person confronted her and grabbed a necklace she was wearing. The woman attempted to stop the man with her walking stick but he managed to rip the necklace from her neck before running from the scene.

Residents in the area heard the woman’s cries for help and called for police assistance. The woman was not physically injured however she was left traumatised by the incident.

Yesterday, Monday 7 February 2022, Armadale Police arrested a 22-year-old man at a residence in Treby Street, Armadale. He was taken into custody and handed over to Cannington Detectives.

A 22-year-old man from Kenwick has been charged with:

-Aggravated Robbery

-2 x Stealing

-Breach of Bail

The stealing charges relate to two incidents which occurred just before the robbery incident, being the alleged stealing of three t-shirts from a charity shop in Victoria Park and the alleged stealing of alcoholic drinks from a bottle shop in Victoria Park.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 8 February 2022.
