Amazon Australia hosted their official groundbreaking event for the new Amazon Robotics Fulfilment Centre at the Australian Super owned Craigieburn Logistics Estate, in Craigieburn on Friday 8 December.

Mayor of Hume City, Cr Naim Kurt was joined by Amazon Australia’s General Manager of Operations, Michael Finiotis, Australia and New Zealand LOGOS’, Head of Development Troy Bryant and Roberts Co’s, CEO, Matt Bourne to welcome this project, that is unparalleled in size, scale and economic benefits for Hume City.

The fulfilment centre will span across approximately 209,000 square metres across four levels, making it the largest warehouse ever built in Australia.

Targeting completion in 2025, the new site follows the successful launch of Amazon Australia’s first robotics site in Western Sydney in 2022, which doubled the company’s operational footprint.

Set to follow in these footsteps, the future of Amazon is bright for Hume’s economy.

The construction and fit-out of the facility alone is predicted to create around 2,000 temporary jobs, as well approximately 2,000 permanent jobs that will be available in a range of roles once the facility is fully operational.

As the transport, postal and warehousing industry is currently the biggest employment sector in Hume City (employing 20.2% of residents) the opportunity for Hume locals to work in roles alongside advanced robotics and technology is predicted to boost existing skills, and support workers to become attractive candidates for jobs of the future.

Alongside employment opportunities, local businesses will also benefit from being able to retail across the country, creating connections and opportunities that hadn’t been open to them before.

Hume City Council has been glad to provide extensive support and services to this project, from guiding investment opportunities and managing planning approvals, through to offering to support local employment at the facility through Hume City Council’s Local Jobs for Local People program.

Congratulations to Council’s Planning and Building Control Services team and the Economic Development team, for working alongside Amazon Australia, LOGOS and various other hardworking teams to support this investment.
