Minister for Health and Ambulance Services The Honourable Yvette D'Ath

The beloved Ambulance Wish program which grants Queenslanders’ dying wishes has landed in Townsville, the first hub outside of South East Queensland.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Yvette D’Ath today launched the much-loved program in Townsville for local palliative care patients.

The new Ambulance Wish Townsville hub receives funding from Queensland Health and a Wish Ambulance from Queensland Ambulance Service.

“Creating precious moments and memories is what Ambulance Wish Queensland does so well,” the Minister said.

“Ambulance Wish has helped so many Queenslanders experience their dying wish including visits to the beach, attending a football game or spending time with family.

“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to be supporting such a beloved organisation as it expands into North Queensland.

“I want to acknowledge the Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper and his tireless advocacy which has been so crucial in bringing this hub to Townsville.

“Everyone deserves to die with dignity and that’s why we’re investing in better palliative care services across the State.

“We’re investing an additional $171 million from this financial year until the 2025-26 financial year, to lead reforms in palliative care.”

Member for Thuringowa Aaron Harper said: “As a former paramedic, I’m delighted that Ambulance Wish now has a dedicated Townsville hub servicing North Queensland.

“I’ve campaigned long and hard to get this local hub up and running.

“You simply can’t overstate how much of a difference this iconic organisation will make to local palliative care patients and their families.

“The Townsville hub will also service Charters Towers, Ingham and the Burdekin, which is great news for North Queensland.”

Member for Mundingburra Les walker said: “Ambulance Wish is going to be a great addition to the Townsville community and the patients who will benefit from the service.”

Minister for Resources and Member for Townsville Scott Stewart said: “Granting a dying wish is a precious thing and I’m delighted we now have Ambulance Wish here in Townsville.”
