Andrews fails to deliver enough police to keep Victoria safe

Victoria Police resources will continue to be stretched after the Andrews Labor Government ignored its own modelling in Tuesday’s State Budget.

Only 33 per cent of the additional police officers required to keep Victorians safe will hit the streets, funding only 502 new police officers – a whopping 66 per cent short of the mark.

Recent modelling from the Andrews Labor Government showed that 1500 new police members would be required for the next four years.

Shadow Minister for Police, Brad Battin, says the Andrews Labor Government’s own modelling shows policing in Victoria could hit a crisis point as a result of the shortfall.

“The Andrews Labor Government has failed to find the budget to keep Victorians safe.

“Their own modelling highlights the need for 1500 extra police, and yet Daniel Andrews is only willing to deliver a third of that.

“Victoria already has a health and triple-0 crisis. With continued under-investment, I fear we will see a police crisis in the near future too.”
