Another criminal on loose on Liberals’ watch

Tasmanian Labor
  • More prisoners on the loose on Hodgman’s watch
  • Tasmanian community more dangerous under Liberals
  • Will Hodgman and Elise Archer have more questions to answer after another Risdon Prison inmate has escaped into the community.

This comes after another prisoner was on the run for 12 days earlier this month.

Shadow Minister for Corrections Ella Haddad said the Government was failing to do its number one job – keep Tasmanians safe.

“The Liberals like to talk tough on crime but after another prisoner is on the run today, the community is rightly asking why this keeps happening,” Ms Haddad said.

“Hard-working staff at our prisons are crying out for more support from the Government but it seems like the situation will only be getting worse.

“We haven’t heard anything from Elise Archer, who is on the Liberals’ razor gang, about how the Prison will be impacted by the $450 million of budget cuts.

“With another dangerous criminal on the loose, surely this will convince Elise Archer that our Prisons can’t face more cuts.

“Tasmanians deserve to be safe in their community. Quite frankly, Tasmanians deserve better.”
