Another man charged over assault on bus at Hunters Hill, NSW

Another man has been charged over the alleged assault of a man and an off-duty police officer on a bus at Hunters Hill on the weekend.

Police will allege about 3.15pm on Saturday (2 November 2019), two men and a teenage girl boarded a bus on Victoria Road near Lyons Road, Drummoyne.

A short time later, one of the men allegedly assaulted a 67-year-old male passenger.

The bus stopped, and the man was asked to exit by the driver and a male passenger – an off-duty senior constable.

The man did not comply and allegedly physically assaulted the off-duty officer. The assault continued, and the second man and teenage girl became involved, kicking and punching the man before fleeing the scene on foot.

The officer was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for facial cuts and swelling. The passenger was assessed but did not require further treatment.

Officers from Ryde Police Area Command, with assistance from PolAir and the Dog Unit, established a perimeter to locate the trio.

Following the incident, a 40-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl were arrested and charged. They remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, about 8.15am yesterday (Thursday 7 November 2019), a 44-year-old man was arrested at Ryde Police Station.

He was subsequently charged with assault police officer in the execution of duty occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, and affray.

He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Friday 8 November 2019).
