Appeal after man kidnapped, assaulted and robbed in Westmead

Police are appealing for information after a man was kidnapped and assaulted in Westmead last night.

About 8.40pm (Saturday 24 April 2022), a 46-year-old man was walking along Church Avenue when a white van pulled up beside him and two males got out and dragged him into the van.

He was allegedly assaulted with a wrench and kicked before his car keys, wallet and phone were taken from his pocket. He was left on the side of Bruce Street, Merrylands.

About 11.10pm, police were notified that a silver Honda CRV was on fire at the Bathurst Street Park, Greystanes. It is believed to be the man’s stolen vehicle.

The man was located by police on Bruce Street and treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for cuts and swelling to his face.

A crime scene was established in Greystanes and officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
