Appeal after reported child approach, NSW

Police are appealing for information after reports of a child approach in the state’s north.

About 1pm today (Sunday 9 May 2021), two 12-year-old girls were playing in Smiths Road, Emerald Beach, when two men have driven past the girls several times in a white van continually smiling and waving at them.

The girls became concerned for their safety and sought refuge in a nearby residence.

A short time later the incident was reported to police and officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District commenced an investigation.

As inquiries continue, police would like to speak with the men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

They are described as Caucasian appearance, with short light hair and between 40 to 50 years of age.

The white van is also described as having two rear doors.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage or knowledge of the men or the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
