Appeal after teenagers assaulted at Canterbury, NSW

An investigation is underway following an unprovoked assault upon two teenagers in Canterbury yesterday.

About 9.15pm (Sunday 1 November 2020), emergency services were called to Wonga Street, Canterbury, following reports of an assault.

Police have been told three teenage boys, two aged 17 and a 16-year-old, were sitting in their Mazda parked on Wonga Street, waiting to pick-up a friend.

A man approached the vehicle and confronted the teens before becoming aggressive, punching the driver through the open window before removing the keys from the ignition.

Two other men appeared, with one of them kicking the vehicle and the other punching the passenger window and causing it to smash, injuring the front passenger.

The three unknown men fled on foot and were last seen running on Wonga Lane.

The teenagers sought assistance from nearby witnesses, who contacted emergency services.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command established a crime scene at the vehicle, which has been seized and will be forensically examined.

Both teenagers, aged 17, were treated at the scene, before the passenger suffering lacerations to his arms and hands was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition. The younger boy was uninjured.
