Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a dangerous driver was arrested on the Waikato Expressway tonight.
About 6pm, Police began receiving reports of a black Subaru Legacy being driven at high speed near Huntly, allegedly weaving across lanes, braking unpredictably, and swerving towards other vehicles, forcing them to take evasive action.
The vehicle was pulled over by Police at Taupiri and the driver was taken into custody.
The 27-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving and refusing a compulsory impairment test.
Senior Constable Chris Polglase says the public’s quick action reporting the driver’s behaviour could have prevented a potentially tragic outcome.
“We are grateful to those people who did the right thing and stopped their vehicles to make a call to us, so we were able to quickly take action.
“However, we still want to hear from anyone who might have witnessed this vehicle being driven on the Expressway during this incident, or who might have dashcam footage.”
