Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in the state’s Orana region last week.
Officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were called to a business on Victoria Street, Dubbo, about 7.30am on Friday 11 September 2026, following reports of an attempted robbery.
Police arrived and were told the shop owner – a man in his 50s – had been threatened by an unknown person wearing a full-face balaclava and gloves, holding an object concealed under a piece of clothing.
Officers were told the intruder demanded money and cigarettes, before threatening the man.
The shop owner armed himself with a wooden handle, prompting the intruder to flee on a Honda dirt bike parked at the rear of the complex.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Police have seized a backpack from the scene which will undergo a forensic examination.
As police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, officers are asking anyone who may have CCTV/mobile phone or dashcam footage, or who has witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during this time, to come forward.
