Youth Minister Hannah Beazley has announced two initiatives on International Youth Day to amplify the voices of young people and create opportunities for them to participate in their communities.
From today, Western Australians aged 15 to 25 can apply to join the Ministerial Youth Advisory Council (MYAC), a group of up to 12 diverse young people who work directly with the Youth Minister to provide advice on issues affecting young people across the State.
MYAC provides a platform for young people to influence government decision-making, champion their priorities, and shape policies that support current and future generations.
Members will serve up to a three-year term from July 2027, gaining valuable leadership experience, developing networks, and creating positive change for young people throughout Western Australia.
The Minister has also launched the updated Youth Participation Kit, a suite of practical resources and tools designed to support meaningful participation in the community through channels such as advocacy, leadership, or volunteering.
These initiatives demonstrate the Cook Labor Government’s commitment to ensuring young people are heard, valued, and empowered to help shape Western Australia’s future.
International Youth Day is celebrated annually on 12 August. The initiatives announced today reflect the 2026 theme, Different Contexts, Common Aspirations, recognising that while young people come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, they share common goals for connection, opportunity, inclusion, and a positive future.

“The Youth Participation Kit is a key action in the Cook Labor Government’s Youth Action Plan, Koorlangka Bidi, to amplify young voices.
“The Kit will support young people, through practical tools and resources, to feel empowered to participate in the decisions that will affect their lives, communities, and futures.
“I also encourage all young Western Australians passionate about making positive change to apply for my Ministerial Youth Advisory Council to ensure young people have a voice on the issues important to them.”
