After two years, Ms Jacqui McGill has indicated that she will step down as the Chair of the TAFE SA Board, as of the end of October.
During the period of Ms McGill’s leadership, TAFE SA has taken significant steps forward in its service to the people of South Australia, highlighted by its reaccreditation for seven years in its most recent ASQA audit.
Seven years’ reaccreditation is the highest ranking of approval that ASQA can provide, and this is the first time that TAFE SA has received this level of confidence from the national regulator. It is a signal that TAFE SA has firmly put the problems of 2017 behind it.
As Minister for Education, I would like to personally thank Jacqui McGill for her outstanding strategic leadership in helping TAFE SA undertake its necessary reforms during her two years as Chair of the Board.
The South Australian Government wishes her all the best as she continues to provide public service to the people of South Australia through other pathways, for which she will now have more time.
In order to continue the next phase of transformation for TAFE SA, Ms Jo Denley will commence as the new Chair of the TAFE SA Board from 31 October.
Ms Denley is also an experienced leader with strong expertise in governance and Vocational Education and Training. She has previously served for several months as Acting Chair of the Board, and we are confident that she will do a terrific job leading the Board and the organisation in the years ahead.
Since coming to Government, the Marshall Liberal Government has dramatically increased the priority in apprenticeships, traineeships and skills. We have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in new money into supporting skilled pathways, and we are undertaking the most significant reforms of school based apprenticeships and traineeships in a generation.
More than $100 million has been invested into the TAFE SA organisation through our first two Budgets, and it has played an important role, alongside our revitalised non-government training sector, in achieving nation-leading outcomes for training commencements.
As we continue to lead the nation in traineeship and apprenticeship numbers – with significant increases year on year in South Australia while the rest of the nation goes backwards – TAFE SA will continue to play a vital role in ensuring we have a strong pipeline of skilled workers in key industries for South Australia.
