The Albanese Government has today announced the appointment of Ms Julie O’Brien as Deputy Commonwealth Ombudsman at the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman.
Ms O’Brien’s appointment ensures the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman can continue to deliver its important work resolving complaints and ensuring government agencies act with integrity and accountability.
Ms O’Brien’s 5-year appointment will commence on 3 November 2025, following a merit-based selection process.
Ms O’Brien is currently serving as General Counsel at the Australian Human Rights Commission and has extensive legal and regulatory experience.
