Appointment to the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2)

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Anastasis (Tass) Liveris as a Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) (Division 2). Mr Liveris has been appointed to the Darwin Registry and commences on 5 February 2024.

The Australian Government is committed to merit in appointing judicial officers. Mr Liveris has been appointed following an open call for expressions of interest across all jurisdictions, and consideration by an advisory panel. This panel comprised the Chief Justice of the FCFCOA, a former Chief Justice of the then Family Court of Australia, and a senior officer from the Attorney-General’s Department. The advisory panel shortlisted, assessed and put forward recommended candidates for appointment, including Mr Liveris.

On behalf of the Australian Government, I congratulate Mr Liveris on his appointment and thank him for his willingness to serve the people of Australia as a Judge of the FCFCOA (Division 2).

Mr Anastasis (Tass) Liveris

In 2001 Mr Liveris graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the Northern Territory University (now Charles Darwin University). Mr Liveris was admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory in 2002. Mr Liveris was admitted to the High Court of Australia in 2007. He was called to the Bar in 2010.

Mr Liveris has served as a Councillor of the Law Society of the Northern Territory, including as President from 2015 to 2017. Mr Liveris was also President of the Law Council of Australia in 2022.
