Arson arrest at Beenleigh

Detectives from Logan have arrested a 24-year-old Ipswich woman and charged her with arson after a unit was destroyed by fire in Beenleigh overnight (November 20).

Police were called to the complex on Main Street at 9.45pm and found the unit in flames.

The occupant of the unit, a 32-year-old man was not inside at the time of the fire and was not physically injured.

Police evacuated approximately twenty other residents from the complex, however initial investigations indicate none of the adjoining units were badly damaged.

The 24-year-old woman was found nearby by police and was arrested without incident.

She was transported to the Southport Watchhouse where she was charged with one count of arson.

It’s believed the man and woman are known to each other.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have CCTV footage from Main Street, or who may have witnessed the fire, to contact them.

The unit will remain a crime scene until the morning to allow forensic officers to conduct examinations.

The woman will appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court this today, November 21. (Via video link).
