Arson arrest – Kensington fire

On Wednesday 20 December 2023, Arson Squad detectives arrested a 26-year-old man as a result of their investigation into a fire at a Chiropractic office in Kensington that occurred on Tuesday, 5 December 2023.

It will be alleged about 10.15pm, the accused went to the Chiropractic office located on Douglas Avenue where he used an object to smash an exterior glass window pane of the patient waiting area.

It will be further alleged the accused reached through the broken window and poured a liquid accelerant onto the waiting room floor and furnishings before igniting the accelerant.

The waiting room of the premises was significantly damaged by fire prior to being extinguished. Damage occurred to the floor coverings, chairs and window furnishings, with significant smoke damage occurring within the remainder of the premises. The estimated damage cost is $50,000.

The 26-year-old man from Butler was charged with:

• Criminal Damage by Fire;

• Endanger Life, Health or Safety of a Person; and

• Aggravated Burglary and Commit on a Place.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 21 December 2023.
